The Creative Spirit in Contemporary Love Poetry

One of the key elements in contemporary love poetry is creativity. In fact, it is the creativity of the contemporary love poet that brings his or her poetic works to life in each era. Without the creative spirit, contemporary love poetry would not come to life. The creative spirit introduces a celebration of new life, unique to its time.

Unfortunately, there are those who feel threatened by the creativity of others, as if their own work is likely to be squelched by it. In reality, each creative work stands alone, or on its own, its true merit waiting to be discovered in time, whether in its own era, or perhaps a later one.

No two contemporary love poets are ever really in competition with each other, unless they choose to compete. While competition can be great in terms of instigating new contemporary love poetry, it can also be time consuming and even feel threatening to the contemporary love poet who is forced to produce.

The muse of the contemporary love poet may not find appropriate expression through a gifted contemporary love poet who is not comfortable competing openly with others. Without appropriate expression by the muse, the contemporary love poet may be silenced temporarily or permanently.

Depending upon his or her use of language, it may be perceived as beautiful, perfect or totally astounding by some, and ugly, imperfect or commonplace by others. There are still others who experience no reaction to it simply because they are absorbed in their own worlds of thought.

Addressing the creative genius in a contemporary love poet's work can only come about through the recognition of its merit by someone who is able to recognize its value. Who is able to comprehend it? There may only be one person or just a few who can understand what has been written. At times, there may be groups of people with a specific mindset, who hold the key to its interpretation.

Creativity should never be squelched as the creative genius of one person often leads to the creative genius in another. It is like a series of stepping stones historically, or building blocks that have to have some kind of initial foundation. 

Acknowledging the creative spirit in contemporary love poetry is important, particularly with respect to encouraging contemporary love poets to continue their endeavors in every era.
