The Contemporary Love Poet as a Dreamer

The concept of a contemporary love poet as a dreamer, is not uncommon in the history of contemporary love poetry throughout the eras, including that of today. Perhaps the dream of contemporary love poets, or being a dreamer, has far more significance than most contemporary love poetry critics and other readers ever realize.

To have a dream in terms of one's goals or direction is life is a good thing, as it gives life purpose and meaning. To have a dream while sleeping is a reality of everyone's life. Thus, having a dream as a goal or aspiration, or a dream while sleeping, are both normal for contemporary love poets too, in all eras.

Contemporary love poetry critics or others, may try to label a contemporary love poet as a dreamer simply because they do not have, feel, experience or even understand the inspiration of a muse. In other words, the dream or goal of the contemporary love poet may seem to be too far fetched for others, particularly in his or her own era. That same dream if documented at that time, may have significance many eras later, but becomes speculative or subject to the interpretation of others in retrospect.

A contemporary love poet may also be inspired by his or her muse, while he or she sleeps and awaken to pursue that inspiration further, if he or she is aware of being inspired to write poetically. The hopes and dreams of contemporary love poets can squelched by the negativity of others, or further inspired by the optimist who encourages poetic dreamers to dream on, or even dream larger.

The dreams of poetically inclined children are often goal-directed by their parents, who  understand the merit of their children's poetic dreams and aspirations. Perhaps they recall their own poetic inclinations in their own younger years, knowing that they were thwarted early in life.

Many adults go throughout their lives wanting to fulfill lifelong dreams of becoming contemporary love poets, but never having the courage to act on their dreams. Some actually begin to write contemporary love poetry in their later years, simply because the dream was always there, but the time factor did not allow it as other priorities took preference.

'To dream or not to dream' is often a matter of choice, as contemporary love poets allow their dreams and ambitions to flow over into their poetic writings in every era. The dreamer in the contemporary love poet continues to dream on from age to age, as inspired to do so, by his or her muse.

Perhaps the greatest fulfillment of dreams comes from divine inspiration rooted and grounded in love, the source of all dreams whether hopes and aspirations, or dreams when sleeping. Writing contemporary love poetry helps to bring those dreams into reality in every era.
