The Contemporary Love Poet in His or Her Era
Each contemporary love poet contributes to the vast realm of contemporary love poetry that is unique to his or her era. No two contemporary love poets make exactly the same literary contribution although aspects of their contemporary love poetry may have similarities because of its timing. In other words, similar styles, words or expressions may be evident.
What one contemporary love poet wrestles with in his or her contemporary love poetry, may be similar in topic to the contemporary love poetry of another. In other words, the focus may be identical. For example, one contemporary love poet may center on loving concern for others during a natural disaster in his or her contemporary love poetry and another zero in on one expression of love in a unique situation related to the same tragedy.
The contemporary love poet experiences a desire to express him or herself poetically, during his or her era. At times, this can lead to a compulsion to write contemporary love poetry. The contemporary love poet recognizes the reality that he or she has a distinct voice for his or her era and thus his or her contemporary love poetry finds its own unique expression in its appropriate time. Later, his or her uniqueness of poetic expression may be identifiable, as no two contemporary love poets write exactly the same in any era.
The poetic voice of the contemporary love poet speaks to others who may or may not comprehend its poetic message. Thus, contemporary love poetry may be accepted or rejected during its own era. It may also contain a message that has significance for the future, when a gifted visionary speaks as a contemporary love poet and foretells the future in his or her contemporary love poetry.
A contemporary love poet may be an adult, teenage or a child. There may also be a simplicity about contemporary love poetry that enables a child, teenager or any adult to read or understand it. At other times, it may seem far too complex for anyone to understand and may need the efforts of many, including academics to interpret it. The contemporary love poetry may contain many layers of meaning in the era of the contemporary love poet, with different layers of meaning for different groups of people. For example, a teenager may speak to other teenagers. It may also contain different meanings for other times.
In his or her own time, the contemporary love poet may offer his or her personal interpretation of the contemporary love poetry that he or she has written or compiled. In later eras, that may become the task of others. How to relate to or interpret contemporary love poetry later can be problematic, but at the same time, totally delightful. Inter-relating various works of a contemporary love poet can lead to enlightenment on many different levels.
The contemporary love poet may suffer open rejection of his or her contemporary poetry during his or her era. He or she may be misunderstood, deemed fanatical, schizophrenic or otherwise mentally ill depending upon the level of understanding, comprehension or intellect of his or her reader, as well as his or her ability of poetic expression. He or she may also be understood as a poetic genius.
The contemporary love poet may soon find him or herself in fierce competition with other contemporary love poets. The cruelty of others who are simultaneously striving for success can virtually crucify the contemporary love poet during his or her era. It may also stifle his or her desire to write or publish contemporary love poetry. In other words, the contemporary love poet may find him or herself confronted by, or contending with love poets who are not conveying a message of love at all, but rather one of pseudo or false love through their poetic works. Hope lies in the reality that true expressions of love stand the test of time while the poetic expressions of pseudo-love do not. Eventually, they are recognized for what they are and are weeded out.
Many true contemporary love poets receive appropriate recognition in their own eras, but for some, that may only happen much later in their lifetimes, or after they pass on. Regardless, because of the nature of love and their innate compulsion to write contemporary love poetry, true contemporary love poets will continue to surface in every era.
