The Joy of Discovery in Contemporary Love Poetry

The joy of discovery in contemporary love poetry is indisputable. There is no question that it may be subjective in nature with respect to the love poet, as well as be objective to others who may include both readers and critiques.

The era of the contemporary love poetry does not seem to matter either. In other words, whether the contemporary poet is writing in his or her era, or is a contemporary love poet of the past, the joy of discovery can still be evident in his or her poetic work.

The joy of discovery is also realized by the readership associated with the work of the contemporary love poet, both in the present and in the past. Perhaps what is most intriguing, and thus becomes a primary aspect of what keeps the contemporary love poet writing love poetry in every era, is the joy of discovery. Discovery has an unquestionable, exciting and intriguing newness, unique to each individual's poetic endeavor, realized either subjectively or objectively, by him or herself, or others.

What is even more interesting is the reality that the work of any contemporary love poet may be perceived differently, or in more than one way by him or herself, as well as by others who read or critique his or her poetry.

Different eras offer unique, new treasures of discovery in contemporary love poetry. What those of one era might perceive, discover or read into a particular piece of love poetry, others from a different era might choose to refute or reject. There is also the possibility that they may expand upon, reiterate or reinterpret a specific piece of love poetry in a completely different light.

"Eureka, I have found it!" aptly describes the words, feelings or response of a contemporary love poet who suddenly realizes he or she has found that for which he has been searching. Perhaps this contemporary love poet has already written reams of love poetry. At times, it all suddenly comes together as a concrete whole and begins to make sense, sometimes summed up in just one word, expression or line. The same response may come from a reader of contemporary love poetry seeking answers, or even a critic trying to make sense of the work of a contemporary love poet. "Eureka, I have found it!"

The dawn of new discovery invariably opens another horizon of thought, as the joy of discovery in contemporary poetry is like revelation when new words, thoughts and ideas begin to unfold. As they start to appear on the pathway of an era, they gradually reveal the mind of the love poet and how he or she thinks.

Mysterious pieces of a huge puzzle may fall into place, often one at a time, and miraculously, they all fit together perfectly in contemporary love poetry. Even when there appears to be a missing fragment, it may turn up eras later in the poetic writings of another contemporary love poet.

Love by its very nature, is a complete whole not fragmented by time or history, although it may appear that way. It unfolds exactly as it should in an orderly fashion in its own time and place. Thus, the whole of contemporary love poetry is one, an indisputable, undeniable unity.

Perhaps one might suggest that the fragmentation imagined, or evidenced in some way in contemporary love poetry, has more to do with the breaking of man in his own era. It may wait to be uncovered or discovered in another era and is often concealed deep within the poetic works of other times or places.

Man who feels broken, mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually seeks healing. The word and expressions found in contemporary love poetry in every era, often portray his degree of pain and suffering, but also offer the possibility of potential enlightenment that creates a new pathway towards healing, health and wholeness. "Eureka, I have found it!" may be his response too.
